New start

The simple facts: I start my new job at a restaurant/traiteur in Nimes on Monday at 8 am.

Hmm.

Well, obviously I'm looking forward to it. Enormously so, in fact, more than I've looked forward to anything work-wise for an awfully long, long time.

I'm also a bit frightened that I'll f&ck it up badly, burn down the kitchen and kill half the staff. I notice you're not laughing - but then you know me already.

In some ways that would be best, I think - sneak out round the back of the fire engines. Much worse would be to just mess up a bit every now and then (OK, every few hours) and get kicked out.

Realistically, I know I'll make some mistakes but I've gained a lot of confidence along with my experience at the Grange de Labahou, courtesy of Frank and Isabelle to whom I owe a massive thankyou. They are my heroes, I want to be Frank now.

This will be the first time I've had to get up and go to work on a regular basis, day in, day out, for getting on for 10 years. Blimey.
